Suomi, Sisu and Sauna

International camp for youth and young adults

Lions Camp 107-O, Kalajoki

22nd of July – 3rd of August 2024

Hello and welcome to the international youth and young adults camp in Kalajoki, Finland, from July 22nd to August 3rd, 2024; Suomi, Sisu, and Sauna!

We’re super excited that you’re joining us in Kalajoki, a charming little town by the sea. Our camp will take place at the Kalajoki Christian College, where each of you will get your own cozy dorm room. We’ll be spending most days at the college, but we’ve got some awesome trips lined up too. So, pack your curiosity and playful spirit, because our adventure is about to kick off!

The fun starts on Monday, July 22nd, 2024, and wraps up on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024. The camp office will be open on Monday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. When you arrive, you’ll fill out a registration form and get your room key. The official camp program kicks off at 3:00 PM, but feel free to grab a snack in the college cafeteria starting at 2:00 PM.

You can find the detailed daily schedule at the end of this program. Keep in mind that the schedule is flexible, and we might make some changes during the camp. Our days start with breakfast at 8:30 AM and wind down with quiet time at 11:00 PM. Nights are for catching some Z’s, so please stay in your dorm and keep the noise down. Let’s follow the rules to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep. During the camp, we’ll dive into all sorts of fun activities. We’ll explore Finnish culture, have tons of fun together, cook, make music, get some exercise, hit the sauna, and even go on a shopping spree.

Here’s what to pack:

□ Personal hygiene items

□ Travel documents

□ Medications, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent

□ Weather-appropriate and comfy clothes for both indoor and outdoor activities (laundry facilities are available)

□ Swimsuit

□ Sturdy shoes for walking in the forest

□ Raincoat/umbrella (waterproof clothing)

□ Some spending money

□ Materials to present your country

□ A big smile and good vibes

The goal of the camp is to bring young people from different countries together for some international fun and to boost global understanding. To keep things running smoothly, here are a few ground rules:

  1. Everyone’s expected to stick around for the entire camp from July 22nd to August 3rd, 2024. If you need to leave, you’ll need to get the okay from the camp organizers.
  2. Respect everyone’s different ethical, religious, and political beliefs. Let’s keep things friendly and positive!
  3. Join in and be active in all camp activities.
  4. Everyone gets their own room. No crashing in someone else’s room or making noise at night. And no sneaking out at night either!
  5. No alcohol or drugs allowed during the camp. This is a non-smoking camp, and smoking in public buildings is against the law in Finland.
  6. We’re not responsible for any lost valuables or money, so don’t bring anything you can’t afford to lose.
  7. No hitching rides from unauthorized people or driving motor vehicles.

If you break the rules, you might have to leave the camp, and you’ll have to cover your travel costs home.

If you need to reach a staff member during the camp, call +358 44 4639201.

That’s all for now! We can’t wait to start this adventure with you. Welcome to Finland and let’s have a blast!

Cheers,

Camp leaders:

Mirko Siltakoski (mirko.siltakoski@gmail.com)

Hello everyone! My name is Mirko-Elias, and I will be one of the camp leaders in this Lions Camp! I am 25-years old man from Kempele (Finland). My background includes studies of international business and management but at the moment I am writing my master’s thesis on education in the university of Oulu, so soon hopefully I will be a Master of Education Sciences.

My hobbies include tinkering (usually cars, but also with a lot of other objects), videogames and gym. In my free time I also like to play with my 3-year-old child and German shepherd, cook and chill.

From this camp I expect to gain a lot of good new experiences. I love to have small adventures and that enriched with people from multiple cultures with multiple different perceptions of things sounds just simply put; AWESOME! I can’t wait to show you around.

See you all soon!

And

Anna Lahtinen (anna.lahtinen@kkro.fi).

”Hi there! I’m Anna, a playful and giraffe-loving person who loves fun and laughter. As a caring and expressive aunt, I have a knack for making everyone around me feel comfortable. By day, I’m a course planner at a college, where I enjoy bringing my creativity to life by designing interesting programs.

I’m passionate about camps and enjoy the adventure and excitement they bring. While I might not be the best at English, my friendly and enthusiastic nature helps me connect with others. I also love being surrounded by vibrant colors and bringing a touch of joy to my everyday life.”
